It may be a new year, but SpaceBooger wants to see some good old fights!
So, who remembers good old 52? There were many impressive moments in that weekly maxi-series, but my favorite involved a character I couldn't care less about before I started reading that book.
I'm talking, of course, about Ralph Dibny - the Elongated Man, who spent most of the year falling into depression pits and overcoming magical ordeals to learn more about it so he could try to resurrect his murdered wife Sue Dibny.
Led on a magical quest by villain Felix Faust who was posing as the helmet of Doctor Fate, Dibny eventually revealed that he knew he was being manipulated all along, standing tall and turning the tables.
The reveal truly came as a surprise - The readers were not aware that the helmet of Fate was fake, but all the little clues fit once Ralph exposed the truth.
And so, Ralph made Faust summon his master, devil stand-in Neron. Tricking the devil into killing him, Ralph managed to both physically trap Neron in the tower of Fate and reunite with his wife in the afterlife.
And after the fight concluded... Well, let's just say their souls were together happily ever after, solving mysteries as ghost detectives.
Unfortunately, DC hates money, so they never actually followed on this idea.
Ralph punches Faust in 52 #42, written by Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison, Greg Rucka and Mark Waid, and illustrated by Darick Robertson.
